Late-night crash claims life of Brundidge teen

A single-vehicle crash late Friday claimed the life of a Brundidge teen and sent a Troy man to the hospital.

Marquez Barr, 17, of Brundidge was killed when the 1995 Ford Explorer in which he was a passenger left the roadway and overturned.

Barr, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and declared dead at the scene, according to Pike County Coroner Jerry Williams.

The driver, Robert Demond Carlton, 25, of Troy, also was ejected and injured. He also was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Carlton was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on Pike County 7708, also known as Needmore Road, about six miles northeast of Troy. ALEA is releasing no further details, as the incident remains under investigation.
