A 32-year-old drifter police believe to be the “Tiger Bandit” is facing bank robbery charges in connection with five holdups that occurred within a week, including one in Orange County, authorities announced Friday.
Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department arrested Winston Damian Evans earlier in the week at a relative’s home in Compton, a police statement said.
Detectives found clothing they believe Evans wore during the robberies, as well as a “quantity of cash.” They also seized a silver Nissan Altima that matches the description of a getaway vehicle used in one robbery.
During an interview with detectives, Evans “implicated himself” in the robberies, the Sheriff’s Department said. The robberies took place in Huntington Beach, Santa Monica, Long Beach, Marina del Rey and Lomita.
The “Tiger Bandit” earned his nickname because of a Detroit Tigers baseball cap he wore during some robberies.
