Joblessness in 30 of Washington’s 39 counties declined in June, according to preliminary figures released Tuesday by the state Employment Security Department.

The month-over-month unemployment rate increased in King and Snohomish, along with Cowlitz, Whatcom and Whitman counties. It stayed the same in four counties.

King County’s unemployment rate was 4 percent, up from 3.7 percent in May but down from 4.9 in June 2014.

Snohomish County’s jobless rate was 4.3 percent, up from 4 percent in May but down from 5.4 percent in the year-ago period.

Pierce County’s unemployment rate declined to 6.4 percent from 6.5 percent in May and 6.8 percent in June 2014.

Year-over-year, the jobless figure declined in 35 counties, went up in two and remained the same in two.

The county unemployment data are not seasonally adjusted for month-to-month fluctuations and are based on a household survey.

The statewide, non-seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, for direct comparison to county data, was 5.3 percent in June, the same as in May, and down from 5.9 percent in June 2014.

The statewide seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, as previously reported, was also 5.3 percent in June, down from 5.4 percent in May and 6.1 percent in June 2014.
