The Atlanta Braves traded relief pitcher David Hernandez to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday. Hernandez joined the Braves in spring training and had spent the early part of the season pitching for Triple-A Gwinnett. The Braves will receive a player to be named later or cash from the Angels.

Hernandez appeared in seven games for Gwinnett and allowed four hits and one earned run over eight innings of work. He showed good control striking out nine while walking just two. However, Hernandez’s deal included a major league opt-out for May 1 and according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s David O’Brien, just hadn’t shown enough to warrant a call up.

The Braves added Motte after spring training and he has allowed just two hits and no runs over 5.1 innings at Gwinnett.
