Corpus Christi played host to the 2018 Texas Downtown Association conference that attracted experts from around the country who know how to revitalize downtown areas.

Management officials say they took much away from the conference. But one particular area the Corpus Christi Downtown Management team is focused is on pedestrian safety.

More than 150 downtown management representatives from all across Texas explored different shops, restaurants, and other local hotspots during their visit to “The Sparkling City by the Sea.”

The main way these visitors navigated the downtown area was by walking. Experts learned a lot about the Corpus Christi downtown during their exploration.

These Texas downtown experts were able to share recommendations on making improvements to the experience, including developing ways to make the Corpus Christi downtown area unique and then capitalizing on it.

“The ability is to walk around our downtown for our visitors,” said Alyssa Barrera, executive director of the Corpus Christi Downtown Management District. “So we’re very excited for voters to approve two projects that will benefit walkability in the downtown area including pedestrian improvements across shoreline and new lights to help people feel safer.”

The Corpus Christi Downtown District Management District say those who travel through the area must be able to do it in a safe way.

The $22 million 2018 bond approved by voters will provide funding to help them do that.

Among the items included in the bond are sidewalk and lighting improvements. The Downtown district management says this will help visitors return for years to come.
