Woman Found Dead After Being Hit by Vehicle in Mayes Co.

Authorities in Mayes County are searching for the driver of a vehicle that struck and killed a woman early Thursday morning.

Emergency paramedics were called to a county road four miles east of Mazie after receiving reports of a vehicle accident. This happened east of Tulsa County in Mayes County.

An initial report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol states that a vehicle was driving northbound on the road and struck and killed the woman, identified as Penny Lynn Dawson. She is a 43-year-old resident of Chouteau and died at the scene from "massive injuries."

Authorities were not able to provide an exact description of the vehicle that struck Dawson. Troopers were assisted by the Mayes County Sheriff's Office and the Chouteau Fire Department.

An investigation has begun in order to obtain more information about the wreck and identify a suspect. Anyone with information about the incident should contact the Mayes County Sheriff's Office at (918) 825-3844.
