Cyclist Hit By Car In Avon Lake: Suspect In Custody
Police announced they have found the car that hit a 51-year-old cyclist on Wednesday, leaving her in critical condition.
AVON LAKE, OH — Avon Lake police said Friday they have taken a 21-year-old woman into custody for hitting a bicyclist on Wednesday, leaving the cyclist in critical condition.
Allison Spoerl, 21, of Avon Lake, was taken into custody on Friday, police said. She faces charges of assault, obstruction of official business, tampering with evidence, failure to yield, reckless operation, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and posession of criminal tools.
Spoerl was released on personal bond. Her preliminary court appearance was scheduled for June 6.

Earlier on Friday, police said they seized a 2017 dark grey Ford Focus hatchback from a body shop in Avon. The car had damage to its windshield and front-end, police said.
The car matched descriptions given by witnesses and from images captured on surveillance footage. Police said they had made contact with the driver at the time.

On Wednesday afternoon, a 51-year-old Bay Village woman was hit by a car while bicycling on Lake Road. The car that hit the woman did not stop at the scene, but drove off.
The woman was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center for treatment, police said. In their last update, police said the woman was in critical condition.
