UPSALA-Jack Hegarty and Scott Litchy combined to pitch the Sobieski Skis to the Region 8C championship with an 8-2 win over the Buckman Billygoats Saturday, Aug. 11.
With the win, the Skis earn the No. A seed out of the region and a first-round bye in the Minnesota Class C State Tournament that begins Saturday and Sunday Aug. 18-19 at sites in New Prague and Shakopee.
Also advancing to state from Region 8 are Buckman (No. B), Lastrup (No. C) and Fort Ripley (No. D).
First-round games were scheduled to be released Sunday, Aug. 12.
Hegarty earned the win as he tossed seven innings striking out eight and only walking one while scattering three hits and one run. Litchy tossed the final two innings and didn't walk a batter. He struck out one and allowed one run on three hits.

Litchy also drove in three runs while going 2-4 with a double. Beau Hanowski was 3-5 with a double and two RBIs and Tyler Jendro went 2-3 with a double.
The Skis managed just eight hits, but put another 15 runners on base on 13 walks and two hit batters. Matt Kummet was tagged with the loss and was one of four pitchers for the Billygoats.
Noah Boser led Buckman as he finished 2-4 with a home run, a double and drove in both runs for the Billygoats. Aaron Weber was also 2-4 and scored a run when he doubled in the ninth and raced home on Boser's double.
Sobieski (20-0) is making its ninth consecutive state appearance and 20th overall. The Skis won the Class C title in 2014 and were runner-up in 2016.
