Connecticut Weather: Memorial Day Weekend Forecast Changes Again

The forecast for the upcoming holiday weekend keeps changing, and sometimes change is good. Here are the latest details as of Thursday.

With Memorial Day weekend serving as the unofficial kickoff to summer, lots of people have outdoor plans, including parades, barbecues and heading to the beach. The forecast for this upcoming holiday weekend for Connecticut continues to change, and there is some good news this morning.

Yesterday, it appeared that a storm may impact the weather forecast, especially on Sunday afternoon and evening with rain, but now in an update Thursday morning, Meteorologist Ryan Hanrahan of NBC Connecticut offers us some good news.

“The weekend weather is looking better and better. Enough dry air should hang on for Saturday and Sunday to give us a fair amount of sunshine and pleasant temperatures. There is still a chance for showers on Monday but both Saturday and Sunday look good now with the storm we've been tracking staying to the west. Enjoy!!!” (Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)

It now looks like a mostly rain-free holiday weekend, except that there could be some rain showers on Memorial Day, but currently it doesn’t look like anything major.

And that’s a great transition to today's weather, where a Coastal Flood Advisory has been issued for areas along the immediate coast in Fairfield and New Haven counties.

A Hazardous Weather Outlook has been issued for Hartford and Tolland counties because periods of heavy rain are likely tonight and could lead to some minor flooding, the National Weather Service states.

Connecticut could be looking at another half-inch to one inch of rain before the showers end early Friday.

WTNH News 8 Meteorologist Gil Simmons wrote, “The steadiest rain will be for the morning hours today. Hit or miss showers for this afternoon and a cool day with high temperatures only in the 50s. Rain and thunder overnight tonight into Friday morning. Some clearing Friday later in the afternoon and a dry Friday evening. Dry weather also for Saturday!"
