There may never be a better venue for a story about a whimsical candy factory than Hershey, Pennsylvania.
The stage musical “Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” is coming to the Hershey Theatre for a run of eight shows starting on Sept. 10.
The show follows the plot of Dahl’s children’s book, where a boy named Charlie lives in poverty with his struggling parents and ill grandparents. But when eccentric and reclusive candy maker Willy Wonka announces that he will allow a few lucky children inside his wondrous factory for a tour.
Charlie is one of the fortunate kids to find a golden ticket hidden within a Wonka bar, which grants him access to the fantastic factory, populated by the unusual Oompa-Loompas and filled with incredible inventions and candies.
The musical features songs from the 1971 movie “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory,” as well as new songs added by the songwriters from the musical “Hairspray.” Tickets start at $25 and can be purchased through the Hershey Entertainment website.
