The Chicago White Sox are continuing their rebuild and the Texas Rangers are adding a depth arm.

Thursday night, the Rangers acquired veteran righty Miguel Gonzalez from the White Sox for minor league infielder Ti'Quan Forbes. The two teams have confirmed the trade.

The Rangers are 66-67 and four games back of the Twins for the second wild card, so while they are in the postseason race, they are on the fringes. Also, they lost Adrian Beltre to a potentially serious hamstring injury Thursday, which won't make it any easier to climb up the standings.

Gonzalez, 33, allowed three runs in six innings in his start against the Twins on Thursday afternoon. He is 7-10 with a 4.31 ERA in 133 2/3 innings so far this season. The Rangers have had basically a revolving door at the back of their rotation the last few weeks. Gonzalez should help settle things down.

The 21-year-old Forbes was a second round pick in the 2014 draft. He is hitting .234/.281/.344 with 11 home runs in 130 games split between two Class A levels this season. Gonzalez, an impending free agent, didn't have a ton of trade value. The ChiSox are taking a shot on a project.
