The City Council has voted to ban charitable can shakes until definite guidelines for the fundraising efforts can be developed.The Advocate reports the vote came this past week after extensive discussion of the need to improve safety for fundraisers while not impeding traffic at busy intersections in Donaldsonville. An earlier proposal to ban can shakes was rejected in August.In the earlier discussion, Councilman Emile Spano said recent road work, especially at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 3089 at Louisiana Highway 1, has created more dangerous conditions.Another concern raised by the council is that some people participating in can shakes are under age 18, which violates the contract organizations must sign with the city.Sign up for our email newsletters to get breaking news right in your inbox.
