Wake Forest volunteers are making about 350 Thanksgiving dinners in Campus Kitchen that will be delivered over the next week to community organizations that help with food insecurity in Winston-Salem."The longer that I’ve been involved in Campus Kitchen, the more I’ve learned about some of the issues about hunger, homelessness and nutrition, especially in Winston-Salem. That has just made me more passionate about it," one student said. This year, Harvest Table Culinary Group officials from the university's on-campus food service provider will prepare 200 more meals for the community to be delivered.Dinners include turkey, green beans, vegetable stuffing, mashed sweet potatoes, homemade cranberry sauce and pumpkin cookies. Most of the green beans and sweet potatoes are used from the Wake Forest Campus Garden and the turkeys were purchased from a local farm outside of Winston-Salem.The deliveries to organizations including City with Dwellings, FaithHealth NC, Latino Community Services, Habitat for Humanity Forsyth County, Samaritan Ministries, The Parenting Path, The Potter's House, The Shalom Project, Veterans Helping Veterans Heal and individuals in the Asterpark and Azalea Terrace communities will take place from Tuesday through Nov. 25. "It's really important for Wake Forest University to continue building community and to recognize that we're all celebrating Thanksgiving together," said Brad Shugoll, associate director of service and leadership for the Office of Civic and Community Engagement. "Turkeypalooza creates a space where we can share in a fall meal while allowing students, faculty and staff to think beyond the Wake Forest community and to work in partnership with our community organizations."
