ABC has confirmed that the second season of the “American Idol” revival premiere date is Sunday, March 3. Returning to emcee season 17 is Ryan Seacrest, who hosted last year as well as all 15 seasons of “American Idol” on Fox. And last year’s trio of judges — pop princess Katy Perry, country superstar Luke Bryan and singer/songwriter Lionel Richie — are all returning. Their quest to find the season 17 winner will run for 12 weeks in the spring of 2019.
“American Idol” will air two-hour episodes almost every Sunday and Monday until the live shows begin on April 21 (see the full schedule below). The premiere, as well as the next seven episodes, will focus on the auditions held in 20 cities last fall.
As with the version that ran on Fox for 15 seasons, the first few episodes of this reboot will be taped. These shows will include the auditions in various locales, Hollywood Week, the top 50 being culled to just one score and those Top 20 in both solo performances and celebrity duets.
