Analysis: This is a longtime rivalry which was renewed last year as both teams began play in the NEWMAC, with Coast Guard edging Norwich 13-9 a year ago to win The Mug. "You don't see the same level of passion that you see at these rivalry games," said Behne, a senior linebacker. In last year's game, Cam Cecchini caught a screen pass from Ethan Goldcamp on a third-and-5 with Norwich blitzing and went 73 yards for the game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. ... This week, both teams are coming off wins, with Coast Guard scoring the final 17 points of the game Friday night, including a game-winning 18-yard touchdown run by Gardner, to beat Nichols 27-20. After trailing 20-10 with 7:20 left in the third quarter, the Bears defense allowed just 24 yards the rest of the way. Norwich defeated Castleton 40-0 Saturday, with Dunn, a sophomore, making his first career start at quarterback and finishing 11-for-20 with 254 yards and two touchdowns. The Norwich defense posted its first shutout since October, 2012. The Cadets are avergaing 297.3 yards per game on offense (171.7 passing, 122 yards rushing) and giving up 457 (313.7 passing, 143.3 rushing). ... Coast Guard will be missing running back Jon Wagner (hamstring), who has rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown thus far. Wagner will be spelled by freshman Jay Griffin, who will join Gardner in the backfield. ... Moffatt, the Bears' wide leading wide receiver (20 catches, 263 yards) was held without a catch last week. "(Nichols) had a number of very strong, big kind of corners that jammed our guys," Coast Guard coach Bill George said. "We're still a throwing team; don't get me wrong." ... The Bears had a clutch contribution last week from Austin, the senior kicker, who converted field goals of 36 and 38 yards and was named NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week. George spoke of Austin at this week's team football luncheon. "He is really a professional in preparing himself," George said. "He's really, really prepared himself well." ... The game will be played on Parents' Weekend at the academy. ... Next week, Coast Guard travels to Washington, D.C., to play Catholic at 1 p.m. Sept. 29.
