When the Star Trek and M:I:III director isn't Scrooge McDuck diving into piles of cash, he's apparently been shooting a top secret trailer for a movie called Super 8, which our fellow movie geeks at HitFix report is rumored to be the name of the Cloverfield sequel.
And when will you be able to see this trailer? Why this coming weekend, as it's being sent out to theaters with Iron Man 2.
According to HitFix's sources (which went the way of the Bothans in Jedi after delivering this information), the site can confirm the title of Super 8 and that it is not releated to the recently announced project serving as Abrams' love letter to vintage Spielberg films.
Should this Super 8 trailer be for Cloverfield 2, how exactly the project ties into the first film remains fuzzy - but expect the teaser to make the connection clear to audiences by the time it's over. (We'd like to think that the title Super 8 refers to the film stock used in the days before VHS camcorders, which makes us think that we could get a pre-digital age Cloverfield monster, seen through the eyes of a Super 8 camera.)
This isn't the first time Paramount has used one of their summer blockbusters to promote a mystery movie from Bad Robot. The first teaser trailer for Cloverfield played with prints of 2007's Transformers.
IGN Movies will keep you posted after we see the trailer this weekend.
