WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Your favorite treats will be back at Gremler’s Bakery April 2.

Aimeelou and Steven Gremler closed the bakery for the winter in order to spend more time with Aimeelou’s family, she said. The couple originally aimed to reopen March 12 but pushed back the opening date to better prepare.

Customers can expect the bakery to be closed for the winter every year.

Gerald and Susan Gremler opened Gremler's Bakery in 1979. Their son, Steven, took over the business in 1999, and the bakery operated for more than 35 years before closing Sept. 25, 2015. Steven and Aimeelou reopened the bakery Oct. 8, three years and 13 days after it closed.

Steven said his dream was always to run the bakery with his wife, but when he closed the business in 2015, he wasn't sure it would happen. Then he met Aimeelou, who had always dreamed of opening a bakery someday. The two married and decided to reopen the business.

Aimeelou said the couple was busy for the first three months after the reopening, trying to keep up with the demand for people's favorite treats and baked goods.

Gremler's Bakery will also sell handmade bags made in the Philippines.

New this season, customers can browse through a selection of handwoven and handcrafted bags made in the Philippines by Filipino women from jail or a correctional facility who were given a second chance, Aimeelou said. The colors are inspired by the culture in Davao City, where Aimeelou is from.

You can find your favorite sweet rolls, Danishes, breads, buns, cookies, pies and more from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday to Friday at 1811 W. Grand Ave. in Wisconsin Rapids.
