Twitter users were quick to respond to the mismatched bout between Canelo Alvarez and Rocky Fielding in New York’s Madison Square Garden, which saw the Mexican become a three-time world champion.

As expected, they were not kind.

Many users called the Englishman a “bum” and decried a “terrible fight” that was a “joke”.

Others saw the match-up as little more than a circus to kick start the new DAZN network, with some glad that it was not on pay-per-view.

The rest was largely mockery of the mismatch.

One Twitter user called the fight a “cute sparring session” for the Mexican champion.

Elsewhere, Fielding was said to have “donated” his title to the superior Canelo.

Twitter users mocked Fielding for hoping his corner would stop the fight.

Others made light of the brevity of the fight.

Some could not even download the app in time to catch the action.

The DAZN network took its own shot at humour.

Several unkind users compared the Liverpudlian’s fight in New York to Homer Simpson’s boxing career.
