The Federal Government wants doctors to prescribe more generic drugs.

The changes, which will affect the software doctors use for prescribing medicines, could save millions of dollars from the health budget.

While the Australian Medical Association has expressed some reservations over the move, the proposed change has the support of the peak body representing GPs
