Members of Banda Magda, an ensemble formed in New York in 2010, have yet to tackle a musical style from around the world that they cannot adapt to their own stylings. Having already toured in over 22 countries worldwide, a partnership with Purdue Convocations brings them to Lafayette's Carnahan Hall on Feb. 1.

According to a press release by the Purdue News Service, Banda Magda's repertoire encompasses such diverse genres as French chansons, Greek folk, Afro-Peruvian landó and other world musics. Founded by Magda Giannikou, a Greek-born multi-instrumentalist, their performances feature a blending of styles and instrumental virtuosity to create a unique listening experience.

The concert is scheduled for 8 p.m on Feb. 1 in Lafayette's Carnahan Hall, with a pre-show discussion occurring at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the Stewart Center box office at a price of $20, or $15 for children, Ivy Tech and Purdue students.

Purdue Convocations' presentation of Banda Magda is supported by Dr. Nancy DiMartino and Stephen Borghi.
