Strange: Former NYT Executive Editor Carries An Obama Doll In Her Purse

Former New York Times Executive Director turned Harvard visiting lecturer Jill Abramson penned an opinion piece in The Guardian detailing a potential for a Democratic uprise this election cycle.

Of course, Abramson focused on a number of key elections, the biggest one being a potential for a Democratic challenger to defeat sitting Sen. Ted Cruz as Texas appears to be more purple than Republican red.

She explained the Democrats potential because of a number of issues plaguing the White House:

Republican gloom in Washington DC is palpable, with White House chaos, Donald Trump’s sinking approval ratings and incumbent retirements piling up. This week brought news that Mississippi’s long-serving Thad Cochran is leaving the Senate. That has left the Republican party searching for a replacement strong enough to defeat a Roy Moore-like rightwinger in an upcoming primary from which Cochran has decided to withdraw. And a special House election in Pennsylvania next week looks dicey.

Abramson argued that a "Trump rebellion" is taking place across the "Solid South" where "religion, racism and love of guns have advantaged Republicans since Richard Nixon's election in 1968."

The most bizarre part of her OpEd, however, was the very last paragraph, which she probablshould have omitted:

It’s easy to look at what’s happening in Washington DC and despair. That’s why I carry a little plastic Obama doll in my purse. I pull him out every now and then to remind myself that the United States had a progressive, African American president until very recently. Some people find this strange, but you have to take comfort where you can find it in Donald Trump’s America.

The Hypocrisy Runs Deep

The fact that Abramson carries an Obama doll in her purse and she willingly admits that is not only sad but downright disgusting. If Republicans carried around a doll of President Ronald Reagan or even George W. Bush, we'd be accused of being racists who want to go back in time and prevent the first black man from being president. We'd be accused of wanting to "stay in the past" or "fearing progress."

Why is it okay for liberals to be triggered by the Trump administration but conservatives aren't allowed to voice any concerns when a Democrat is in office? Is it because we're not as sensitive as our liberal counterparts? Is it because Democrats claim to be the champions of minorities, women and anyone who they deem to be a "second-class citizen?"

Liberals, you can't have your cake and eat it too. Either you're in favor of all criticisms of a president or you're in favor of no criticism of a president, regardless of his or her political party.

Make your choice and choose wisely.
