UPDATE: A multi-car crash southbound on Interstate 65 had many in traffic for hours.

According to Kentucky State Police, the accident happened at the 66-mile marker where bridge repair was happening and the roadway merges from three lanes to one lane.

Officials say, traffic was congested because of the repair work, with multiple vehicles slowing or stopped in the southbound lanes.

A semi-truck driven by Geoffrey London of Leitchfield approached the congested area in the right lane and failed to yield to stopped traffic in the lane closure, and hit a Mitsubishi Galant driven by Casandra Easterly.

The commercial vehicle continued on its path of travel southbound and hit other vehicles that in turn caused a chain reaction type collision.

Authorities say some of those involved were a Nissan Altima driver by Brent Botts, a Peterbilt semi-truck driven by Richard Yoder, a Jeep Wrangler driven by Dustan McCoy, a Ford Ranger pickup driven by Kay Oyler, a Freightliner commercial vehicle driven by Terry Miller and a Dodge Ram driven by Robert Esterle.

London's vehicle came to a final rest against an earth embankment located off the right southbound shoulder.

Casandra Easterly was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of critical injuries she sustained during the accident.

Two passengers in Easterly's car were also taken to the hospital and were listed in stable condition.

Angelica Botts, a passenger of Brent Botts’ vehicle, and Kay Oyler were both taken to TJ Samson Hospital for treatment of a non-life threatening injury.
