The shocking moment a Tesla crashed through the wall of a Florida gym has been caught on CCTV.

Footage shows a man getting off a treadmill at Anytime Fitness when the vehicle smashed through the wall just inches from him, after first driving through an empty storefront next door.

A number of people were exercising in the gym just before noon on Sunday, when the car interrupted their workout, ABC reported, but nobody was injured.

The woman behind the wheel was 'crying and shaking', witnesses said, and had to be pulled out through the passenger door of the vehicle.

Ted, the man who was on the treadmill at the time, laughed off his close brush with death.

'I coulda been [seriously injured] but I just got dumped on with all kinds of debris,' he chuckled.

Pictures from the scene show the car had zoomed through metal beams holding the glass doors of the shopfront together before breaking through the wall of the gym and slamming into exercise equipment.

The front of the vehicle appeared badly damaged by the crash, which the female driver said was caused by a mechanical fault.

When officers from the Pasco Sherrif's office and Florida Highway Patrol arrived, the woman told them she had tried to brake but the car continued accelerating.
