PEACHLAND, N.C. — Authorities are investigating a deadly deputy-involved shooting in Anson County Friday afternoon, according to WSOC.

A deputy shot a person who had a weapon while responding to a call on Lower White Store Road, officials said. Officials were called out for a stroke and the man became combative with EMS, investigators said.

The sheriff said the man pointed a long rifle at deputies and the captain shielded the man’s wife when shots were fired.

The sheriff told WSOC that the man has died. The deputy was injured but was not shot.

Names have not been released. The investigation is ongoing.
