Mayors of Las Cruces, El Paso bet on NMSU-UTEP outcome

NMSU beats UTEP 41-14 at Aggie Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017.

LAS CRUCES - The mayors of Las Cruces and El Paso have made a wager on Saturday’s rivalry game between winless teams, New Mexico State University and the University of Texas-El Paso.

Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima and El Paso Mayor Dee Margo have each agreed to wear the other team’s jersey to a city council meeting if they lose the bet.

Miyagishima spotted Margo 2.75 points, so the Aggies must win by at least a field goal for Miyagishima to win the bet. NMSU is a 3½-point favorite.

“I am ordering his jersey today!” Miyagishima said on Thursday.

UTEP is 0-3 and has lost 15 straight games, the longest losing streak in the country among Football Bowl Subdivision teams. NMSU is 0-4. The game will be played on Saturday in El Paso, where NMSU hasn’t won since 2008.

Plenty of good seats are still available.
