Garth Brooks has issued an invitation to Bobby Bare to rejoin the Grand Ole Opry.
Bare, an original member of the Opry from the early 1960's, allowed his membership to lapse over the years. Brooks couldn't let that stand, surprising the 83-year-old singer onstage during his latest Orpy performance.
"You have absolutely no idea what's about to happen, do you?" Brooks asked.
"No idea," Bare answered. "Totally in the dark."
Brooks informed the crowd that they were going to witness "a historic night," as well as "one of the coolest honors ever bestowed on me." He then noted that "The Grand Ole Opry isn't about membership. It's not a club. It's about family. And family is forever!"
Bare tweeted out his excitement over the invitation, adding that it was the best birthday gift he could have asked for.
