Sharing a photo of herself giving a thumbs up, the 40-year-old mum said: "I do this really adorable thing where I take a perfectly ripe banana and carry it around in my bag for a few days until it gets progressively more bruised and grainy & mushed and then force myself to eat it out of guilt and sort of half gag my way through it.

"It’s the cutest," she added.

Celeb friend - and wife of Irish actor Chris O'Dowd - Dawn O'Porter said:  "I keep them to make banana bread then have to scrape them off the inside of my tote bag and just buy banana bread. Adorbs."

Another follower said: "I usually hang on it it until it's really black and mushy and all over my handbag. Then have to scrape it out with 20 baby wipes."

And one added: "Sometimes I tell myself I’ll make banana bread out of it too. I place it on my windowsill in the sun whilst waiting for a buddy for him.

"Then once I’m satisfied it’s completely rotten from the inside out I throw it in the bin. Then I repeat as necessary," she said.

The post comes just days after the star joked to husband Brian O’Driscoll: “Why don’t you make this effort for me anymore?” after the rugby star shared hilarious throwbacks 20 years on from his Irish rugby debut.

O’Driscoll said it’s 20 years since he first lined out for Ireland – but joked he had some regrets as he looked back on his style down through the years.

Brilliant pics show the Dubliner, 40, sporting sensible sandals in front of the Sydney Opera House, as well as numerous blonde hairstyles and goatees.

The dad-of-two said: “20 years ago today I made my @irishrugby senior debut. Hard to know which was my best look… #regretsihaveafew.”

Wife Amy Huberman joked in the comments of the Instagram post: “Why don’t you make this effort for me anymore?! All I want is to take you out for a nice meal in your Jesus sandals and a blowdry (of your chin and bob)”.
