Week 7 of the college football season saw four upsets to teams in the AP Poll Top 10. Those upsets led to a shakeup in the gambling world, as Ohio State took Clemson’s spot as the team with the second best odds to win the College Football Playoff National Championship.
As of Wednesday evening, the Buckeyes’ odds are 5-to-1, an improvement from last week’s evaluation of 15-to-2. Clemson’s surprising loss to the Syracuse Orange in the Carrier Dome dropped their odds to only third; the Tigers now have 9-to-1 odds of winning it all.
Once again, though, the Alabama Crimson Tide are the favorite. After laying waste to the Arkansas Razorbacks in a 41-9 victory, the Tide improved their odds from 5-to-4 last week, to 10-to-11.
Of the upsets, Washington State had the biggest blow to their odds. On the same night that Clemson fell (Friday the 13th), the Cougars were overpowered by California, 37-3. The blowout dropped Wazzu from a 50-to-1 longshot, all the way to 300-to-1. Apple Cup rival Washington dropped to 40-to-1 odds, while Auburn dropped to 75-to-1.

In the Heisman odds, it’s another week with Saquon Barkley at the top. The Penn State Nittany Lions running back saw a drop in his odds this week, but he’s still the favorite at 7-to-5.
However, the top spot isn’t just for Barkley—he’s sharing it. Stanford running back Bryce Love, who had 4-to-1 odds last week, now has the same odds as Barkley.
Behind those two RBs are two quarterbacks: Baker Mayfield and...J.T. Barrett. Mayfield has 11-to-2 odds, while Barrett has charged up the odds table. After five dazzling performances since the Oklahoma loss, Barrett now has 9-to-1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy. Last week, his chances were posted at 28-to-1.
