It was two points down the drain for Carlisle United in their 2-2 draw with Crawley, no doubt about that. There are plenty of Blues fans who are saying whose fault they think it is. Keeper, Jack Bonham, made a mistake for the second Crawley goal, but I don’t think you can blame it on one player.

The changes United manager Keith Curle made with his side 2-0 up were strange. I think, if you are 2-0 up at home, you should be going for more goals.

I must admit, though, Crawley didn’t look like a bad team on Saturday. They held the ball up well.

Harry Kewell’s team didn’t look like scoring but then they got their two goals through Karlan Ahearne-Grant. And then all of a sudden, Carlisle supporters were biting their nails and hoping the Sussex side didn’t get a winner.

Richie Bennett came off midway through the second half. I cannot see why he was taken off. He isn’t the finished article, but he had scored a good goal in the first period and nobody is going to tell me he was tired. At this stage of the campaign, there is no reason for him to be tired.

Blues boss Curle made a mistake with his substitutions. I’m not going to criticise him or his players too much. This weekend, they could come from 2-0 down and win the game.

Making tactical decisions is all part of football and all managers have tough decisions to make. Even the best managers in the Premier League make mistakes which leave punters coming away from the ground disappointed.

Carlisle are only five points adrift of Coventry who occupy the final League Two play-off place.

But I’m concerned the Cumbrians are just going to run out of games as they try to break into the top seven. Ultimately, it comes down to who has the best players. I wouldn’t say United have the best players in the league, but what they do have is a group of players who work very hard to get a result.

Former United striker Jabo Ibehre will return to Brunton Park for the first time since he left the Cumbrians, with Cambridge. He is a big, strong lad. I’m sure Carlisle’s lads at the back can sort him out!

It happens a lot, a player coming back to an old club and scoring the winning goal, doesn’t it? Let’s hope it doesn’t happen this weekend.

Winger Nicky Adams was back training this week as he continues to recover from his cruciate knee ligament injury. It would be nice to see him back out on the pitch again.

I thought it was good to see Carlisle United’s players out in the community, taking part in the EFL’s day of action, on Tuesday afternoon.

Blues players visited Scotby School, Cumwhinton School and Jigsaw Hospice, while Gary Liddle, Clint Hill and Mark Ellis were involved in mental health football and walking football sessions. I’m sure a lot of people would have been really pleased to see players doing things like that.

At the end of the day, they play for Carlisle, so it’s nice to see them representing the city around the community. It’s good to see the club getting involved, although the painting the players were doing at Jigsaw Hospice left a lot to be desired!
