What's On Scotland 4-11 Apr: Counterflows & more

Not all music festivals have to involve muddy wellies, a mac in a sack and the consumption of copious amounts of lukewarm cans (drink responsibly kids); the alternative is often referred to as a 'city festival'.

Counterflows maintains its focus on showcasing underground, experimental and international music, returning to venues across Glasgow this weekend, from 4-7 April. Alongside a range of film screenings, talks and performances, the festival's late night party series focuses on experimental music from the South American diaspora.

Friday's Late Night Counterflows Social 2 will feature performances by Brazilian artists MC Carol and Lyzza, as well as Scotland-based, Latinx, non-binary artist Nena Etza. While, on Saturday night, Ashanti (no, not that one) will open proceedings, before Afro-Colombian artist Jim C. Nedd and Milan-based Palm Wine team up for a Guarapo DJ set.

Callum Easter
Leith FAB Cricket Club, Edinburgh. 6 Apr, 8pm
Gigs in cricket clubs is where it's at these days, apparently. Edinburgh musician Callum Easter will be hitting the pitch on Saturday night to celebrate the release of his debut album Here or Nowhere, performing some songs from it himself along with some other acts still to be announced. Giorgio Moroder
Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow. 4 Apr, 6.30pm
Here's a bit of shocking news for you: Giorgio Moroder is currently out on his first ever live tour in Europe, aged 78. Solid proof that you're never too old to party. The Godfather of disco makes a stop on that very tour in Glasgow tonight, so dust off your disco pants and join him. Image: Wikimedia Commons

Edinburgh Comic Con
EICC, Edinburgh, 6-7 Apr, 10am
Attention Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans! Nicholas Brendon, AKA Xander Harris, and Iyari Limon, who appeared as Kennedy, one of the potential slayers in the final series of the iconic show, will both be special guests at this year’s Edinburgh Comic Con. Joining them as another special guest will be Digimon voice actor Joshua Seth, as well as all your usual exhibitors.

What Girls Are Made Of
Tramway, Glasgow. 9-13 Apr, 7.30pm
The thought of revisiting your childhood diary may feel mortifying and cringe-inducing to most, but to Scottish theatremaker Cora Bissett it was an opportunity to make art. What Girls Are Made Of is the true story of Bissett’s girl-to-woman journey, playing at Tramway until 13 April before heading to Edinburgh’s Traverse Theatre later in the month, from 16-20 April. A Clockwork Orange
Filmhouse, Edinburgh. 5-8 Apr, times vary
Beginning this month and continuing into May, Filmhouse will host a Stanley Kubrick retrospective to coincide with Stanley Kubrick: The Exhibition at The Design Museum in London, running from 26 April-15 September. Kubrick’s adaptation of Anthony Burgess’s novel, A Clockwork Orange will screen over four days at the Filmhouse, with afternoon and evening showings available.

Pulse with Blawan
The Caves, Edinburgh. 6 Apr, 11pm
TERNESC label boss Blawan has performed under numerous aliases over the years, with solo releases as Kilner and Bored Young Adults, as well as collaborative projects with Surgeon as Trade and Pariah as Karenn. The latter are due to release their first album in five years, Kind of Green, on 13 April, but before that, catch Blawan going it alone in the historic vaults of The Caves. Image: Marie Staggat

Missing Persons Club: Alienata & Madalba
Lunacy Module, Glasgow. 7 Apr, 2am
MPC bring two of the most exciting DJs going right now to a secret location in Glasgow for this late night party. Originally hailing from Spain, Alienata (pictured) runs her own Discos Atónicos label out of her new home city of Berlin and specialises in dark and obscure sounds, while Madalba moved to Berlin from Italy, where she runs a queer party called Buttons and holds down a residency at clubbing institution Tresor.
