SHERWOOD - An 8.3-mile chase that began at High Cliff State Park and reached speeds of 100 mph on Wednesday night ended with an arrest in Appleton, authorities said.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m., according to Chief Deputy Brett Bowe of the Calumet County Sheriff's Department, an officer spotted a 48-year-old Appleton man on his motorcycle near a maintenance shed in an unauthorized part of the park. The officer began to pursue the vehicle and the motorcyclist accelerated, eventually leaving the park.

The officer later caught up with the motorcyclist on Pigeon Road. The high-speed chase then took the two on a route that followed State 114, State 55, U.S. 10 , Peters Road and Manitowoc Road. The officer discontinued the chase about 7:45 p.m. on State Park Road near Appleton.

Authorities arrested the man about an hour later at his residence in the 2600 block of South Matthias Street. Bowe said the man was arrested without incident.

Police are recommending charges of felony eluding and recklessly endangering safety. The 48-year-old was expected to make an initial appearance in Calumet County court on Thursday.
