Today will be another winter's day of looking up at the skies, wondering if the next shower will be snow, sleet or rain.

Due to a messy crop of scattered showers blowing in from the north west, it's difficult to say for sure whether we will see any precipitation at all today, but we are likely to at some point.

Whether it will fall as snow is the big question.

During the morning small, isolated showers, some quite heavy, will be heading our way, and if one reaches us we could see some snow. Certainly areas north of the town already have and possibly will again. However, as you can see from the chart below, it's the north and west of the UK that will get the lion's share.

Later in the day, from early afternoon, more widespread areas of precipitation are heading our way and it's more likely we'll see something falling out of the sky.

However, most forecasts are suggesting this will fall as rain, not snow, for the town itself. Higher up, from Biggin onwards, it might be a different story, but you never know.

Very little will happen until later in the day and, with showers set to continue throughout the evening, there is a slim chance we could wake up to some snow tomorrow morning, even if it's just a dusting.

So, on such a local level there is a lot of uncertainty. Don't be surprised if we get bursts of heavy snow in Ashbourne, but don't be disappointed if it's only a few flurries.

The sledges can stay in the shed for now.
