She was obese and facing a dual diagnosis of diabetes and hypothyroidism. Aakanksha Jain’s poor physical health had also started to push her into depression. That was when a friend recommended her to try an online fitness and diet app. In just 6 months her mental and physical health underwent a radical transformation. She lost an incredible 30 kilos.

Weight lost
: 30 kgs in 6 months
The turning point
: The day I saw my blood sugar level touch 490 mg/dl, which was almost four times the normal limit. That is when I decided to take charge of my health.
My breakfast
: I eat vegetable upma or chapati and vegetables or stuffed paratha without oil.
My lunch
: 1 cup of vegetables, 1 cup of dal, 1 cup chopped cucumbers and 2 chapatis. I love to add a cup of curd as well.
My dinner
: 1 cup of vegetables with a jowar or wheat roti which I eat by 7pm. I have a glass of milk (without sugar) at 9 pm.
I indulge in
: Since my diet does not contain rice, I treat myself to the occasional thali or meals from a famous restaurant here in Bangalore.

My workout
: I have realized the importance of doing yoga every morning. I do some asanas that have helped to bring down my sugar level and increased my stamina. I also walk for at least 4 kms daily.
Low-calorie recipes I swear by
: Tomato bharta and baingan bharta without oil.

: I used to think that eating less would help me in losing weight. But now I have realized the importance of frequent, small meals because of which I eat small portions of food 6 times a day.
How do I stay motivated?
My weight loss journey has inspired me to lead a healthier life and stay motivated even on days I feel emotionally drained and weak. Shopping is also another super motivator! It feels wonderful to go shopping for clothes and ask for the smaller sizes.
How do you ensure you don’t lose focus?
I must give a lot of the credit to healthifyme.com. They follow-up with me regularly and help me stick to the diet and workout plans that they have customized for me. This helps me to keep a track of my progress. I also ensure I do not lose focus.
What’s the most difficult part of being overweight?
When I was overweight, I used to fall sick quite often. I never had the stamina to do even those things I liked the most. For example, whenever I would go on a 5-day holiday, I would lose out on the last day of fun because I would need to rest from all the sightseeing and other holiday activities.
What shape do you see yourself 10 years down the line?
I see myself as a healthy woman who can take good care of her family.
What are the lifestyle changes you made?
I am far more conscious of what I eat now. I eat at home instead of eating out and I make sure I eat the right kind of food.

: Nothing is better than loving yourself.
