BATTLE CREEK, MI -- Police have determined one of two incidents this week, both initially described as attempted abductions, was not an attempted abduction after all.

The second encounter on Thursday, July 19 is now thought to be a possible assault but not someone trying to forcibly constrain a victim.

In that incident, a woman told police that a man tried to grab her at 7:15 a.m. while she was walking on a path at Riverside Elementary School.

The woman said the man ran into the woods when she screamed and another walker came to help her.

Battle Creek police said further investigation shows the woman did have some sort of interaction with a suspicious suspect, but he was not trying to pull her into nearby woods.

Police are still investigating an incident on Tuesday, July 17 as an abduction attempt.

There, a 15-year-old girl told police she was in a yard on Minges Circle when a man pulled up in a vehicle and pulled the teen inside. She managed to break free and escape.

Police released a surveillance camera image of a vehicle seen on East Minges Road and want to speak with the driver for informational purposes.

Anyone with information about the attempted abduction or the vehicle is asked to call Battle Creek Police at 269-781-0911 or Silent Observer at 269-964-3888.
