Pedestrian, 58, may have been drunk when fatally hit

A 58-year-old Fenton man crossing a Tyrone Township roadway died after being struck by two vehicles early Thursday morning.

Emergency crews responded around 7 a.m. Thursday to a crash scene on White Lake Road in Tyrone Township. A pedestrian died after being struck by two vehicles.

Police identified the victim as Clair Hopkins, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michigan State Police Troopers Greg Galarneau and Denis McCarthy of the Brighton Post were dispatched to a crash on White Lake Road near Hartland Road in Tyrone Township shortly before 7 a.m.

Preliminary investigation revealed two drivers — 59-year-old Holly woman in a 2004 Volvo and a 16-year-old Holly male driving a 2003 Lincoln station wagon — were traveling west on White Lake Road near Wind Chill Way when they struck Hopkins as he crossed the roadway, police said.

The two drivers were not injured.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors for the two drivers, but alcohol may have been a factor with the pedestrian, police said.

The crash remains under investigation with Michigan State Police crash reconstructionist.

Troopers were assisted by Livingston County Sheriff’s deputies , Livingston County EMS personnel, Fenton City Fire Department and Woody’s Towing.

State police Sgt. Alan Avery of the First District’s crash reconstructionist team is leading the investigation.
