Is an Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt movie on the cards? (Picture: Netflix)

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt creators Tina Fey and Robert Carlock have discussed ideas for a potential movie, saying how it would be a standalone feature.

The hit Netflix comedy show’s first half of season four released on the platform earlier this year, with the second half set to arrive on January 25, 2019.

As the show’s final season, speculation of a movie began to circulate to give the show one last hurrah – something which, judging by recent comments, sounds like it’s still on the table.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about whether a potential movie influenced the writing of the final ever episode, Tina Fey said: ‘Well, if we’re lucky enough to get to do the movie, I think it would be a standalone idea.

‘So we were able to complete some arcs for our characters in the upcoming half of the season.’

Co-creator Robert Carlock added: ‘At the same time, we knew that there were threads and themes in the show best suited to the scale and scope of a feature.

‘For example, did Titus ever purchase that box of capes from the medical supply store?’

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt recently earned two nominations at this year’s Emmy Awards, for Outstanding Comedy Series and Supporting Actor In A Comedy Series for standout Tituss Burgess.

Considering Netflix recently delivered a feature send-off for Sense8, it’s certainly likely we could be seeing more series on the platform given a final swansong in movie form.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is streaming on Netflix.
