For a second time, forward Khadim Sy has left Virginia Tech’s men’s basketball program to enroll at a junior college, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Sy, a 6-foot-10, 240-pound redshirt sophomore from Senegal, also parted ways last September with Tech before enrolling at Tallahassee Community College in Tallahassee, Fla. He re-enrolled in January at Tech and redshirted last season.

Sy’s next stop and the reason for his departure this time weren’t known by the source. When he was at Tallahassee Community College last fall, he didn’t play in any games but did briefly practice with the team.

As a freshman at Tech in the 2016-17 season, Sy started 28 of the 32 games in which he played. He averaged 4 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.7 percent from the floor in 11.4 minutes per game.

He played at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, where he contributed 9.7 points and 7.6 rebounds per game as a senior. He was part of a team that went 42-1 in his senior season.

Without Sy, Tech’s frontcourt will consist of 6-10 junior forward Kerry Blackshear, 6-5 sophomore forward P.J. Horne and 6-10 senior forward Nick Fullard. Chris Clarke and Ty Outlaw, both of whom are 6-6 seniors, play wing positions.

Tech adds three incoming freshmen this coming season. None of them is over 6-7, nor do they project as power forwards or centers.
