Couple killed in crash involving a log truck
BEAUREGARD PARISH- A husband and wife were killed Thursday night after the vehicle they were driving in traveled into the path of a log truck.
The crash occurred four and a half miles west of Sugartown.
Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 112 at Louisiana Highway 399 in Beauregard Parish. Authorities said a 2001 GMC Sierra was traveling south on LA 399, stopped at a stop sign, then traveled into the path of the log truck which was traveling west on LA 112.
The GMC was driven by 86-year-old Elaine Picard and 82-year-old Willard Picard.
The log truck struck the driver's side of the GMC causing it to travel over 350 feet before coming to rest. The Picard couple was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the log truck, 68-year-old Charles Davis, was flown to a Rapides Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries.

The crash remains under investigation. Friday morning, starting at 9 a.m., crews will work to retrieve logs from along the roadside of LA 112 at the crash location.
