Dozens of students didn’t let it rain on their parade as they marched through town on graduation day.

Students from the University Campus Oldham donned their mortar boards and gowns for the annual ceremony at Oldham Parish Church.

This year they were joined by council leader, Coun Jim McMahon and local entrepreneur David Bellis who were awarded Honorary Fellowships.

Mr Bellis, who was involved in setting up Oldham College’s new Digital and Creative Career College, was celebrated for his services to vocational education while Coun McMahon was praised for his contribution to community leadership.

They led the procession of students through the town centre before being presented with their awards by pro vice-chancellor of the University of Huddersfield professor Tim Thornton.

This year more than half of students graduated with either a first or upper second class degree across a broad range of subjects.

Highlights included 98 per cent of health and community students passing with a 2:2 or higher and 62 per cent with at least a 2:1.

Debbie Bridge is head of the UCO, which is a University of Huddersfield campus supported by Oldham College.

She said: “This is a fantastic result for UCO.

“They have worked hard to juggle their studies with work and family commitments, producing excellent work in their chosen disciplines.

“We are immensely proud of all students graduating this year.”
