MOSS LANDING >> Repurposed art will be featured at La Boutique as it holds an open house at its new location this weekend.

The artisan”s gallery owned by Evelyn and Tom Brokaw recently moved to 7953 Moss Landing Road, just down the street from its previous location. The open house is from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday.

Tom Brokaw will serve his homemade wine, La Vina, and will display furniture repurposed from old wine barrels. Also featured is a collection of collage, assemblage and acrylics by Cherie Stock.

“With collage and assemblage, there is a strange beauty in objects and cast-offs that get a new life in art — a second chance,” Stock said in a news release. “After a successful battle against breast cancer in 2012, that is something I can definitely relate to.”

Other works on display include photos by Debbie DeLatour, metal works by Michelle Alcantara, jewelry by Shari Baker and textiles and handmade goods created by Guatemalan women as part of The Stove Project.

Experimental photos

Five generations of artists are featured in a new exhibit at the Center for Photographic Art called “ALTERNATIVE Lineage,” which explores experimental photography and honors Betty Hahn.

“Betty Hahn opened my eyes to an entirely new world of self-expression,” said Brian Taylor, who studied with her at the University of New Mexico, in a news release. “In her classes, a photograph was not a precious object or an end-point but rather, an image that could serve as raw material for a larger artwork where the hand of the artist was visible through mixed media and manipulation. Betty unveiled avenues of self-expression not available through straight photography.”

The featured artists — Hahn, Taylor, Henry Holmes Smith, Shelby Graham, Binh Danh and Jane Lindsay — “offer contemporary versions of alternative processes, adapting 19th and 20th century photographic techniques,” according to the center. Prints in the exhibit include Daguerreotypes, chlorophyll prints, Polaroid transfers, mixed-media digital prints and more.

An artists” lecture will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at the Sunset Center”s Carpenter Hall, followed by an opening reception from 4 to 6 p.m. in the CPA Gallery (also at Sunset Center, Ninth and San Carlos, Carmel).

From noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Hedwig M. Heerschop, Rob Schaffer and Lindsay will discuss Gum Bichromate and Daguerrotype printing techniques at a meeting of the Carmel Women”s Club. Guests can attend for $5. For information, call 624-2866.

“ALTERNATIVE Lineage” runs through Oct. 11. Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call 625-5181 or see www.photography.org.

(Mullins, a former Pacific Grove resident, currently lives in Paris.) Mullins will be on hand for a conversation and wine tasting from 2 to 4 p.m. at the art center, 568 Lighthouse Ave.
