Girlfriend charged after Raleigh man found in freezer

Wendy Edmond Green, 41, who has addresses listed at 8617 Ray Road in Raleigh and 11679 N.C. Highway 72 in Lumberton, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of David Reuben Green Jr., 52.

She was being held in the Wake County jail Thursday without bond.

More arrests are possible as the investigation continues, Wake County Sheriff Donnie Harrison said.

Harrison said investigators believe that David Green died at his home in April and that a preliminary autopsy found he suffered severe trauma to the head.

Neighbors said Wednesday that they had not seen David Green since April and that "No Trespassing" signs had been placed on the property recently.

Harrison said David Green’s brother reported him missing Sept. 1 and that investigators looking into the disappearance walked through the home with family members on Sept. 7.

“The first time, it was a missing persons case, and there was no reason to do a thorough search,” Harrison said.

Information family members gave investigators at the time, he said, indicated to authorities they needed to look for him somewhere else.

“As the investigation continued, things just didn’t add up,” Harrison said.

They returned Wednesday for a more extensive search and were there for about two hours when they discovered a foul odor when they opened the freezer.

Harrison said Wendy Green and David Green never married but that they did have two children, a daughter, Alexis Green, 17, and a son, David Ruben Green III, 15.

Investigators questioned Alexis Green, who has been in the Wake County jail since Sept. 16 on failure to appear and contempt of court charges stemming from a July arrest on burglary charges.

They also want to interview the couple’s son but haven’t been able to find him. They are asking anyone with information about where he might be to contact the sheriff’s office.

“We’re talking to everybody we can – the family, everybody else who we think may know something about this case,” Harrison said.
