Nazareth 32, Carmel 13

Devin Blakley ran all night, scoring three touchdowns and had a fourth called back due to a penalty as Nazareth beat Carmel in an East Suburban Catholic Conference game on Friday night in Mundelein.

Blakley ran a punt back 62 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter and added scoring runs of 33 and 49 yards in the third. He finished with 20 carries for 200 yards.

Nazareth (4-0, 2-0 ESCC) held Carmel (0-4, 0-2) to just 177 total yards. The Roadrunners gained 366 yards on offense.

“Our offensive line really came to play, the defense was spectacular,” Nazareth coach Tim Racki said. “I was really disappointed in the penalties. We could have pulled away a little sooner than we did.”

Hersey 43, Niles West 3

Hersey notched its second straight blowout win on Friday night in Arlington Heights by rolling past Niles West.

The victory followed a 40-7 decision against Highland Park in Week 3 and marked the Huskies’ third game in which they reached the 40-point threshold.

“We’re just all executing and doing our jobs, and it’s showing,” said Hersey senior defensive back/halfback Luke Cecala. “All three phases are firing on all cylinders, and we’ve got a lot of confidence going into conference (play next Friday).”

Hersey (3-1) scored touchdowns on offense, defense and special teams against the Wolves (0-4). Cecala had touchdown runs of 1 and 27 yards, and his blocked punt midway through the first quarter yielded a score when Konstantino Mantas pounced on the free ball in the Niles West end zone.

Caleb Augustyn’s 10-yard interception return put Hersey ahead 21-3 at the half. Cecala, quarterback Owen Goldsberry and Kacper Rutkiewicz all scored rushing touchdowns in the second half.
