Omar Mateen, the shooter who killed 49 people and wounded 53 others at a gay Orlando nightclub, married his wife in California a few months after finalizing the divorce from his first marriage, records show.
A marriage certificate from the County of Contra Costa in California shows Mateen married Noor Salman, of Rodeo, Calif., on Sept. 29, 2011. An imam officiated the Islamic ceremony that took place in Hercules, Calif., the certificate shows.
Omar Mateen and Noor Salman, who have a 3-year-old son, both had prior marriages. Salman’s first marriage was arranged by her parents, and it ended Sept. 5, 2009.
Records show Mateen and his first wife, Sitora Yusufiy, were married in Port St. Lucie for nine months. The couple, who had no kids, separated on Jan. 10, 2010. The marriage was “irretrievably broken,” Mateen said in filing for divorce. It became final on July 1, 2011.
Mateen was working as a security guard for G4S at the time, and Yusufiy was working in the real estate field, the divorce papers show.
