Birdboy: The Forgotten Children Blu-ray

GKIDS and Shout Factory will release on Blu-ray Pedro Rivero and Alberto Vázquez's animated film Birdboy: The Forgotten Children (2015), featuring the voices of Andrea Alzuri, Eva Ojanguren, Josu Cubero, Jorge Carrero, Nuria Mari, and Jon Gori. The release will be available for purchase on March 13.
Synopsis: There is light and beauty, even in the darkest of worlds. Stranded on an island in a post-apocalyptic world, teenager Dinky and her friends hatch a dangerous plan to escape in the hope of finding a better life. Meanwhile, her old friend Birdboy has shut himself off from the world, pursued by the police and haunted by demon tormentors. But unbeknownst to anyone, he contains a secret inside him that could change the world forever.
Winner of the Goya Award for Best Animated Feature (where co-director Alberto Vázquez won the Best Animated Short Film prize in the same year) and full of unforgettable characters, Birdboy: The Forgotten Children is a darkly comic, beautiful and haunting tale of coming of age in a world gone to ruin.
I saw this at the Quad Cinema in NYC a few months ago. I was hoping it would get an Oscar nomination over Boss Baby. Alas that didn't come to pass. Months later Bird Boy still haunts me. If only it had a slipcover it would be an easy buy for me. I love the slip covers for their editions of Ghibli films. Being so fussy about slip covers would have seemed silly to me years ago, but I've really gotten into displaying my collection.
