Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon are set to divorce, according to a report from TMZ. The celebrity pair, married in 2008, reportedly separated in May of this year and have been living apart since. Now the divorce is as good as finalized, with lawyers working out the details.

“There is trouble in paradise,” Cannon told The Insider With Yahoo, confirming rumors of a split. “We have been living in separate houses for a few months.”

When it comes to the financials, there are a lot of details to work out — around $570 million, roughly the couple’s net worth. Mariah Carey’s net worth is reported to be $550 million, according to The Huffington Post. Nick Cannon’s net worth is reported at a more modest $20 million, according to International Business Times.

The couple’s lawyers have been working for months on a divorce settlement for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon that includes property division and custody terms for their 3-year-old twins.

Money Problems Contributed to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon’s Divorce

TMZ reports that disagreements over money were a factor that led to the divorce. According to the report, Carey felt Cannon worked too much, and had “abandoned her by taking every gig that’s on the table … when they don’t need the money.”

But having a wife worth 27 times more than Cannon’s net worth may have simply motivated him to get his career in high gear. Nick claims he’s earned $75 million since 2011 for the family, according to TMZ.

Other factors have also been named in the divorce, such as Nick Cannon’s openness about past romantic partners in a March interview with Howard Stern.

This openness led Mariah Carey to request a one-sided confidentiality agreement as part of the divorce proceedings, reports TMZ. Cannon can’t talk about the divorce further than saying they are separated, and if he does he will face significant financial penalties and lose out on some of his settlement money. Carey, however, is free to discuss the divorce on her terms.
