On Monday, Emily Ratajkowski stepped out in New York City wearing a red puffer coat that she paired with LIVINCOOL sweatpants, sneakers, and a turtleneck. The piece was by the Kiev-based label Ienki Ienki, who have been known to churn out giant puffer coats in Michelin Man-inspired bubble silhouettes. (In fact, one of their coats is named the “Michelin” as an ode to the roly-poly figure.) Ratajkowski’s version was tightly belted, a styling trick that allowed the lower portion of the outerwear to elegantly jut out. She topped the cold-weather look off with a hat emblazoned with “OPN”: a piece of merch from the artist Oneohtrix Point Never who created the Uncut Gems soundtrack, the same film that her husband Sebastian Bear-McClard produced.
Then, just yesterday, Ratajkowksi stepped out in a new riff on the same casual look, wearing sweatpants with white sneakers. (This time, she replaced a turtleneck with a black hoodie.) Her coat of choice? A ’70s, Shaft-style coat with a white XXL shearling collar. And just like the puffer, the coat was also cinched, creating an exaggerated hourglass silhouette. The power of a good coat, especially if it can whittle the waist, has the ability to transform an ensemble—and in Ratajkowski’s case, it elevated her look perfectly. Bundling up has never looked so good.
