St. Patrick Troop 10 welcomes newest Eagle Scout

Mason LeGrand of St. Patrick Boy Scout Troop 10 in St. Charles received his Eagle Scout rank at the Eagle Court of Honor on Sunday, June 30, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in St. Charles. He is the son of Ron and Lora LeGrand and brother to Kegan.

Mason began his Boy Scout journey with St. Patrick's Boy Scout Troop 10 in fifth grade.

While not being familiar with Scouts when he joined, Mason has ranked up over the years from Tenderfoot Scout to an Eagle Scout.

During his Scout journey, Mason has been Quartermaster, Troop Guide, Historian, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader twice. He is currently serving as an Assistant Scoutmaster Leader for Troop 10.

Mason has attended numerous campouts and Scout activities, including three High Adventures where he canoed down the Wisconsin River, backpacked and hiked more than 20 miles and white water rafted in the backcountry of Dolly Sods Wilderness Area in West Virginia, and hiked over the mountains at Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming.

These trips inspired and encouraged Mason to strive forward to where he is today.

Mason's Eagle Project consisted of a 30-foot, concrete circle patio with surrounding sitting brick walls and a 12-foot diameter fire pit made from masonry blocks in the middle.

This was an extensive Eagle Project to undertake, encompassing a budget close to $8,000 and more than 220 hours of labor.

Mason wishes to thank his Eagle mentor Jeff Johnson; Dave Markowicz, Mason's second Dad; all Troop 10 Scouts and leaders; and family members and friends. Also, many thanks for the donations that Mason received from Troop 10 and Cub Scout Pack 110.

In addition, a special thanks goes to the company of Ozinga Concrete for their donation of the concrete and their support.

Mason just graduated from Burlington Central High School with honors and was involved in the Big Blue Band of Pride Marching Band for four years, playing the clarinet. Mason will be attending Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this fall. Mason plans to double major in chemistry and biochemistry, with the intent to go into the field of premedicine to become a pediatrician.

His Scouting experience has made him a more responsible, patient and well-rounded young man and leader that he is today.
