Exclusive: Rob Reiner rocks a terrible hairpiece
This is a hot new look for Rob Reiner -- a terrible toupee for his character in And So It Goes.
Reiner, who directed the film starring Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton, gave himself the terrible hairpiece to play a lounge piano player in the film opening July 11.
"It looks like a dead animal fell on my head," says Reiner, 67.
The director admits he was going for laughs with the rug in the romantic comedy which marks the first pairing of Keaton and Douglas together on film. Keaton plays a lounge singer and Reiner is her faithful piano player.
"We just went with it," says Reiner. "The script called for a bad toupee."
Reiner insists he couldn't make it over-the-top bad and walked a fine (hair) line.
"You want to make it look stupid, obviously," says the normally bald-headed Reiner. "But you can't make it stupid enough that the guy would be an idiot to wear it. My character thinks he's got a good toupee."
His star might disagree.
"That (piece) is like a flashing red light," says Douglas, who gave props to his director for daring to go there.
"It's a man who is very secure with himself that can put that animal on his head," says Douglas.
