Man Who Died After Being Found Face-Down In CT River Identified

Authorities say the man was found in the Connecticut River Friday afternoon near a small capsized skiff boat.

HADDAM, CT — Authorities have identified the man who died after being found face down in the Connecticut River near the Haddam Meadows State Park boat launch Friday afternoon.

Connecticut State Environmental Conservation Police (EnCon) said witnesses saw a small open skiff capsized near the boat launch with a man face down in the water around 2:45 p.m. Friday.

The unconscious man was brought to the state launch where he was given CPR and transported to Middlesex Hospital in Middletown where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m.

EnCon Police identified the man as 64-year-old Gunnar Grenman, of Higganum.

Police seized the boat as evidence and an autopsy was scheduled for Saturday.
