Syracuse, N.Y. -- Two Central New York companies have made Fortune magazine's 2018 list of the best workplaces in the state.
Wegmans, the Rochester-based supermarket chain that has a major presence in the Syracuse area, is ranked fifth on Fortune's list of the top 25 large companies to work for in New York.
Bankers Healthcare Group, which has its financial headquarters in Syracuse, is ranked sixth in the magazine's list of the 25 best small and medium workplaces in New York. The company provides loans to healthcare professionals.

The listings are based on the results of employee engagement surveys done by Great Places to Work, a research and people analytics firm. Great Places to Work says the survey assesses employee experiences and honors companies with "high-trust cultures that are consistent across demographic groups and job levels."
Wegmans employs 47,084 people in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Founded in 1916, the family-owned company has $8.5 billion in revenues annually.
The supermarket chain ranked second on the list last year.
More than half of Bankers Healthcare Group's 413 employees work in New York -including 187 in three offices in Syracuse's Franklin Square. The company was founded in 2001 and had $160 million in revenues last year. Its corporate headquarters are in Davie, Fla.
This was the first time Bankers Healthcare Group made the list.
